baseball and summertime

A story this morning about a new book coming out reminded me of HOW MUCH i used to love listening to baseball on the radio (braves games on SportsSouth). Even when i moved to college (and close enough to regularly attend MLB games)… i’d turn up the stereo and listen to the announcers call a Giants or Oakland A’s game. Baseball is such a great time– on the radio or at the ballpark. it’s suspension, a long lazy afternoon with something cool to drink. it’s impromptu gambling games in the bleacher seats with strangers. it’s america

“Summertime” listen here
Summertime,
And the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’
And the cotton is high

Your daddy’s rich
And your mamma’s good lookin’
So hush little baby
Don’t you cry

One of these mornings
You’re going to rise up singing
Then you’ll spread your wings
And you’ll take to the sky

But till that morning
There’s a’nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’
And the cotton is high

Your daddy’s rich
And your mamma’s good lookin’
So hush little baby
Don’t you cry
